Cute as a Bug

You know you're a mom when you want to take pictures of everything your sweet little baby does. James is a month old already and I don't know where the time went. Somehow we are surviving on a few hours of sleep a night (I think it's the mommy super powers that come when you have a baby). I often think that I could sure use another arm, but then I think about all the things I could do with another arm and it makes me tired, so I am content with just two. James had his 1 month check-up today with the Ped. and he's 8lbs. 7oz.   A little on the small side, but he's growing nonetheless. We have another appointment with the cardiologist in 2 weeks for another echosound and ecg to check up on his heart. Today he got his first real bath rather than a quick sponge bath, and off course because I only have two hands I didn't happen to get a picture of his first bath, but let me tell you he was pretty cute. It was the only bath he's actually enjoyed so far. So, other than sleeping and eating and getting his diapers changed James is doing great. I never thought it would be so normal after his surgery, but thankfully it is. I keep thinking every day that I will figure out how to get things done AND take care of a baby, and it seems like every day around 6:00 (dinner time) I am exhausted and realize that the mommy super powers only go so far. If it weren't for the wonderful people who took some time our of their busy lives to stop by and bring us dinner I am afraid we would have wasted away by now. Ok, so that's not entirely true because my mom (who is the best mom in the world!!) stocked our freezer with yummy dinners, but just when I don't think I can handle the day anymore I get a knock on my door from a sweet person with food and a warm smile and I remember that I am not alone and that there is a world outside our tiny apartment full of wonderful people who know exactly what we are going through. It's small acts of kindness like these that make me want to pay it forward (because that's really the best way to pay someone back for being kind).

Now for those pictures I can't resist taking...
This kid loves to sleep during the day, after all it is his job right now. If only I could get him to remember that after I feed him at 4am because for some reason he thinks the night is over and it's time to be awake. Good thing I have a sweet husband who helps me out just when I think I am going to fall over for lack of due to lack of sleep. I often find myself saying through my yawns, "please just go to sleep baby." Sometimes he listens, most times he doesn't, but I sure love him anyways.

My absolute favorite thing this little kid does, besides his occasional smile. I call it the Biiiiiig Stretch. I wasn't fast enough to capture the full effect because he scrunches up his little face and it's the cutest thing ever. I think I am going to miss this the most when he's all grown up.

The only way this kid enjoys being on his tummy. Don't worry he's been next to me the whole time he's been like this. He's supposed to have "tummy time" but he screams after about a minute of that when he's awake so we have to find other means until he gets used to the idea.

Cute as a bug. Need I say more :)
