When a Farm Girl Lives in the City

Fall. Not that spectacular in Florida. I still can't get over that fact and I don't think I ever will. However, come December when the rest of the USA is freezing and snowy, I will be in my glorious paradise sitting in my hammock in shorts and flip flops, drinking lemonade, and loving the fact that I don't have to drive on icy roads. At least that's what I'm telling myself as I look at pictures of New England and dream of apple cider donuts.

Anyways, back to the topic. I have some pretty awesome friends who miss fall just as much as I do and decided to do something about it. So we've had a blast this fall. My favorite activity BY FAR was going to a corn maze and educating all the city folk about the difference between cows and bulls and straw vs. hay! Haha! Just for the record...just because a cow has horns does not mean it's a bull, and just because a bull doesn't have horns does not mean it's a cow. :) I hope my family is totally laughing right now.
I even broke out my adorable cowboy boots just for the occasion. The only thing missing was having to change pipe or stack hay or dig a post hole. Actually, I really don't miss those parts of my childhood too much...probably the reason why I got so good at baking cookies (which I did solely for the purpose of getting out of outside work on a rainy, cold day. Which worked more often than not)...but I do miss the open, clean air and the green fields. I kept taking big, deep breaths and pretending I was home on the ranch. It was a fun day and I never wanted to leave, but alas, back to real life.

Corn pit. Best idea ever!! We had to drag the kids out of it just to eat and then they just wanted to keep playing when it was time to leave.

Even daddy had to try it out.

I was getting nervous because I saw a bunch of kids huddled around Seth, but they were just burying his legs.

We got to feed the cows and horse. James liked feeding the horse but wasn't to keen on feeding the cows that wrapped their tongue around your hand just to get the food. In the wagon over people started trying to feed the cows some of the straw from the bales...I about died laughing.

On the hay ride.

When we got home I asked James what his favorite part of the day was. "Hmmm...the water. There was a frog!!!" is what he told me. "I fed the fish." He fed them by pumping water into the tub they were in. It was almost as hard to pull him away from the water as it was the corn pit, actually I think he actually ran back to pump the water a few more times before we left.

Entrance to the corn maze. It wasn't an awesome corn maze, but apparently it was a blessing to have any corn at all because of all the rain. It was a walk anyways.

His next favorite place. I kept asking him smile and he kept telling me that he was working on his tractor and didn't have time to smile.

He even made tractor noises.

He was kind of unhappy at being in the stroller for the corn walk...but then I gave him an apple. All better.

It was a beautiful, fun day and lifted my spirits in a way I didn't think was possible. Something about smelly cows, green fields, no freeway noise, and fresh air I guess.
