I have been slacking on keeping the blog updated. Truly sorry :)
We always do something adventurous for the 4th of July so we went to St. Augustine this year. It's the oldest town in the USA. It was a quaint little place with ghost tours, canons, churches, and a lighthouse. We spent the night over there and came back just in time for a BBQ that night with some friends.

A new favorite quote.
We kept hoping he would just fall asleep in the stroller...but when that plan failed miserably we decided to just get ice cream because ice cream makes everything better. At least for the few minutes it takes to eat it. The man getting our ice cream was really nice too. He heard James crying over the fact that his ice cream wasn't on a cone so he switched it to a cone and added more ice cream. He could have done without more ice cream, but oh well.
Waiting outside the Pirate Treasure Museum
James took this picture.
James took this picture too. He is really turning into the little camera man.
The Castillo de San Marcos.
On top of the fort. We'd just missed the canons firing but I'm not too sure the boys would have appreciated the loud boom.
The "soldier" at the fort gave James a gold doubloon. James went right up to the man and said, "who are you." Kind of cute. We passed that same man on our way out of the fort and asked if he knew where to get a tire pump. He saw our stroller tires and said he had a pump in the car. He took us back to his car which thankfully wasn't too far and let us use his pump. Made our whole day brighter because we would have had to put the stroller back in the car and carry the munchkins because we forgot out pump. So grateful for his act of kindness. His parting words to us were these, "yeah, I always try to be prepared because you just never know." Well, thank you my good man for being prepared for us. Don't worry, I am in search of an air pump to strap to our stroller so this doesn't happen again :)
This little boy thinks everything should be a canon.
This little man is a trooper. He only whined a little, slept when he could, ate a ton, and smiled most of the time.
Best way to get a family picture these days. Or should I say the easiest no-tear/grumpy-face way to get a picture with all of us.
This boy LOVED the beach. He kept crawling farther and farther out.
Loved the taste of the sea shells.
Love that face.
That little boy was delighted James came to the beach. They were immediate friends.
We ended the day here at the beach. Then we showered off the sand, the kids had complete melt downs in the car, we ordered food, picked it up and headed to the hotel room. The kids were out like light-bulbs, we ate our Cracker Barrel take out in the bathroom, drank our Butterscotch Beer (butterscotch sodas) and watched a movie in bed with our headphones. It was the perfect ending to the day.
The next day we headed to the lighthouse. I have a new love. There's just something about being up above everything and feeling the clean breeze on my face. I also have a new appreciation for living on the third floor. I practically ran up all those steps to the top and was barely winded. It was lovely.
The little boys weren't allowed to go up in the lighthouse so Chris and I took turns going up while the kids played on the ship. They loved this little ship and didn't want to leave.
View of the house where the family that ran the lighthouse lived. It's now a museum.
View from the top.
All those stairs...
Some say the lighthouse is haunted. Probably is, but I was too excited to run up all those stairs without losing my breath to notice.
Chocolate covered key lime pie on a stick and frozen. He of course had to try it. It was actually pretty good too.
At the wooden play area. He was too tired to hold his head up anymore.
After the lighthouse we went back to town and walked around some more. We ate fried alligator and had tasty popsicles. Then the boys played on a huge wooden playground. Then we loaded up and came home. It was so fun to have a little family vacation.
When we got home we went to a BBQ at a friends'. It was such the perfect ending to an awesome weekend. She made these fun red, white, and blue drinks. We ate delicious food, had yummy treats, and watched the fireworks. James' got some bubbles and a glow stick and he got to play with their bucket of cars.
