Went to the doctor today for James' sedated echosound. I've never seen that kid so loopy. It took both doses of the sedative to get him to finally fall asleep. It was cherry flavored and they just squirted it into his mouth. I had to swaddle him to keep his arms from moving and once I did he was out like a light. I sure didn't mind getting to rock him for a while though. It's not often that he holds still long enough for me to hold him these days. Watching him lying motionless with wires hooked up to him makes me think of when he was born. I thought it would be hard to be back in the hospital with all the familiar smells and sounds and crazy emotions from when he had the surgery, but I couldn't help but feel so much gratitude that he's alive and overall healthy because of doctors and all that hospitals have to offer. I might not agree with everything that goes on in the medical community, but today I am simply grateful that James was born in this era, where heart surgery can be deemed necessary before babies even get here and can then be successfully performed after birth, even on the tiniest of hearts. 'Tis a miracle if you ask me!!!
Anyways, back to the update. The cardiologist says his heart looks good. We have another check-up without the echosound in 6 months and James should never have to get another sedated echosound again. Just a regular one where he watches a movie and simply holds still for it. That will probably be in a year. There wasn't much change from the last echosound a year ago so that's good news!! The nurse was awesome and the lady that did the echosound was so gentle. So grateful for people who love what they do.
