Parting Friends

Tonight was a big night for Mr. James. He mailed his pacifiers (aka "binky") to all the new babies. He usually only gets it for nap time and bedtime, but it was time to say goodbye. I only wish we'd done this sooner when he wasn't quite so attached, but alas we did not. We gathered up all the pacifiers in the house and put them in a ziploc. Then I let him decorate a big envelope with markers and 'stamps' that were really just stickers. I've told him all week that we would be giving his binky to the new babies. We showed him pictures of newborns while we put the pacifiers in the envelope and then sealed it up. Then we walked to the mailbox and had James put them in our mailbox. I still have to go get them back out so the mailman doesn't think we are crazy :) After we brushed his teeth he starting asking for his binky and then said new baby. I'm pretty sure his pregnant (crazy hormones I'm telling you) mama shed more tears about no more binky than James did. I just wished I could help his little 2 year old self understand more about why he had to give up an old friend. He was super tired and it didn't take as long as I thought it would for him to fall asleep. Thank goodness!! So far so good. This is probably more than you ever wanted to know about taking a kid's binky away, but thanks for listening anyway. I guess that the little man has just had a lot of changes lately and I feel bad for making him go through one more big one, but I suppose his whole world is going to be rocked come June when he gets a little brother, so the practice can only help...right?
The only thing constant in this life is change, I suppose.
