James turned 2 last Saturday and will now proudly hold up two fingers and say "2" when asked how old he is. Grandma and Grandpa Bench got to be here for his birthday and we had a fun time blowing out candles and opening presents. James woke super crabby thanks to teething and not enough sleep, but the day turned out to be pretty awesome anyways.
I learned how to make a yummy pie from my favorite mother in law! So we just stuck candles in that for James. He wasn't too interested in eating though...more for us :)
Presents!!
He was so cute in that Mickey hat.
We played miniature golf and saw this chair on the way out. This is the face we get at dinner if we don't pray right away.
Grandpa Keller and Grandma JoJo sent him this little cowboy hat to go with the boots Uncle Brian got for him. He puts it on, looks in the mirror, and says, "howdy partner." Good thing we have family in Idaho to keep us supplied with cowboy apparel.
Can you tell they are related??
Playing mini golf. When he wasn't being grumpy he would run back and forth and pick up all our golf balls, and if we were lucky he'd put them in the hole for us.
Finally gets to face forward in his car seat. Yay for being 2! He didn't seem to think it was all that neat, but he sure whines less now that he can see more while we are driving.
Went out to dinner and they came and sang to him and gave him a hat and a cupcake. He wasn't too sure about the hat...
but he LOVED that cupcake!!!! He hardly ate any dinner, but downed that cupcake in about 3 minutes. He was kind enough to share with his parents though.
It's hard to imagine what life was like before this little man came to our family. We love him more than words can even begin to describe. I am so grateful every day for modern medicine so that his little heart could be repaired. He keeps us laughing and wanting to pull our hair out at times, but we wouldn't change a thing. I'm starting to cry again (pregnancy hormones I'm telling you) so I'll just list a few things about him as a now 2-yr old, before the waterworks begin again :)
1. Loves to learn new songs and makes us sing them over and over again until he knows them as well as we do.
2. Tries to climb up on the counter any chance he gets.
3. Gives the best high-fives. Ask ANYONE at church.
4. Loves 'cooking' with me. He would climb right into the bowl just to be closer to the action. We pull out his little stool and he dumps the measuring cups into the bowl and usually only spills a little. My floor is usually caked with flour because he's learning to love cooking. I clean it occasionally...when I'm not thinking of something else to make with him.
5. Puts on his new "alligator" shoes, brings me my shoes, and then stands by the door saying, "walk, walk, walk" or "go, go, go." Pretty sure that kid would live outside if he could.
6. Counts to 10 all by himself, although it takes him a while to get to 10. He says, "1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8,4,5,6,7,8,4,5,6,7,8..." It's the cutest thing to listen to.
7. Can tell me the sound that almost every letter in the alphabet makes.
9. Knows his colors and shapes.
10. Repeats names over and over and over again until he has them memorized.
11. Loves spending time with daddy!!!!!
12. Will give me kisses before he says, "see ya mom," even if he's just going into the other room.
13. Brings a smile to everyone he meets.
